Apple day!

Today we read How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World! I made homemade apple scented play dough (using apple pie spice) with fresh, real cinnamon sticks to be a stem. I put it in a wooden box that looked like an apple crate. I presented it to Lainey as her preschool for the day! Together we all read the book, and then I had Connor write a summary of the book in his journal while Lainey and Noah played with the play dough! Multi age learning is like a bus stop- all the kids are riding on the bus doing one thing (reading the book) but then each kid gets off the bus at different times to do age based learning: Connor writes a summary, Lainey learns that Apple starts with the letter A, and Noah spells apple. Later today we will locate on a globe all the places the girl traveled to in the story to collect her ingredients for the apple pie. Connor ran to the kitchen to make his own edible dough using flour, sugar and water because he really wanted to eat our play dough! Ha ha! Technically the homemade play dough is edible but there is too much salt in it! Lainey has been busy ALL morning playing with her apple play dough and making pies for all her stuffed animals! She has also been playing school all morning! I love the preschool years! I also want to add that Connor got up early in the morning and did all his independent work by himself so that he could be done- great job Connor! Today in Noah’s reading lesson, he read the words so easily that I also turned it into spelling and had him practice spelling the words on paper instead of just reading them. A great Friday!
